Budapest council collects taxes in plenty
Budapest topped its planned tourism tax by Ft 123 billion last year collecting Ft 803 billion from the tourism sector, said Lajos Deli, tax department head of Budapest Municipality to Világgazdaság. The city also surpassed its planned corporate tax income Ft 138 billion by receiving Ft 139.9 billion in 2004. The Municipality also managed to collect Ft 12.8 billion of their estimated assets of Ft 15 billion by the end of the year. At present, there are 233 thousand companies registered in Budapest, and, according to Deli, more are being created than liquidated. As a result of stricter control, more and more companies which have so far managed to evade taxes are being caught. (Vg 4) E.C.
