Tsunami lashes Hungarian tourism industry
According to preliminary estimates, 6 tour operators running trips to Southeastern Asia suffered losses of Ft 100 - 200 million due to the disaster in the region. The government has assigned the Hungarian Tourism Office with shaping up a compensation system for aggrieved tourists in cooperation with the tour operators. Compensating clients for cancelled trips are an extraordinary burden on offices, as they had to pay for booked services months ahead of the planned tours, said Gabriella Molnár, president of the Association of Hungarian Tour Operators. Other tour operators have already reacted to the changed market by rising prices to other tropical destinations. (Vg 6) R.G.
