Draskovics dismissed, Veres takes on
Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány dismissed Finance Minister Tibor Draskovics yesterday. His successor will be János Veres as of next Monday. Veres now serves as head of Gyurcsány''s cabinet and the Prime Minister said he needed a man with greater political and professional support than Draskovics had. Veres insists on meeting the convergence programme, i.e. to meet the criteria to introduce euro in Hungary in 2010. He does not plan to make budget restrictions, however. (VG)
