Hungarians in EU-institutions
There are already 151 Hungarian officials in EU-institutions, more than the number of citizens from any other new member state except Poland. But given that Poland has four times more inhabitants than Hungary, a 50-strong Polish lead is more like a lag behind in per capita terms. The European Commission reserved 3441 jobs for employees from the new member states until 2010 and individual merits are the most important selection criteria, says Siim Kallas, vice president of the Commission responsible for staff recruitment. There are no country quotas, indicative targets exist only.
