Minor health reforms
The Ministry of Health compiled a list of 12 items to be included on the government reform agenda named ''a hundred steps''. Major reforms are out of question, as there is only one year to go before parliamentary electionsand the act on local governments requires a two-third parliamentary majority to amend it. But some measures have to be done immediately in order to avoid setbacks and to make sure that health system works smoothly. Those wishing to go to a physician outside their district should start paying for services. Outstanding levies of employee health contributions, amounting to over Ft 100 billion, will be collected. Also there is a plan to make the birthday of István Semmelweis, the best-known Hungarian physician, a public holiday. (VG)
