No euro in 2010?

European Union statistical office Eurostat will not accept the way Hungary wants to calculate its general government deficit, Világgazdaság has learned. Several sources, asking not to be identified, confirmed that Eurostat does not agree with the government on whether some income from motorway construction outsourced could be booked among government revenues in accounting according to EU methodology or not. If not, as claimed by Eurostat, general government deficit this year could be 5.5 or even 6 per cent of GDP, instead of 4.7 per cent planned earlier. The negotiations are still going on. If Eurostat can not be convinced, chances for Hungary to introduce the euro in 2010 will become extremely limited, experts say.
