Wanted: compensation notes
Demand for compensation notes has soared recently, many hand-made billboards provide evidence of this unexpected feature of Hungarian business life in the streets of Budapest. However, this advertising campaign is only made by a handful of individuals who want to pay with compensation notes at agricultural land auctions. Only notes offered by original owners are eligible and buyers offer about Ft 1,500 or even 2,000 for each note with a face value of Ft 1,000. Theoretically, notes could be used as a method of payment at privatisation bids as well, but in recent deals no buyers took this option.
